The Edge Evolution CTS in-cab monitor and digital gauge display features a high-resolution, full-color 4.3-Inch touch screen display and comes equipped with a video port to connect to Edge’s back-up camera as well as compatible off-the-shelf backup camera systems. The Evolution CTS displays up to eight different gauges from dozens of available parameters to monitor vital engine data such as EGT and boost pressures.

Modern diesels have boatloads of power and torque and tend to yield very decent fuel economy even while towing or hauling the heaviest of cargos. One thing’s for certain though, you can never have too much power when towing heavy loads up steep grades.

And that’s the thought that crossed our minds when we took a ride in our buddy’s tow/chase crew cab Chevy Duramax diesel truck. Not only that, but we also noticed the lack of pertinent powertain information on the dash. We would like to know more than what the stock gauge cluster tells us.

Both of those issues were resolved when we made a call to Edge Products and ordered up one of Edge’s new Evolution CTS programmers to see just how much power it could unleash from our Duramax. Installation was a breeze since the Evolution Programmer plugs right into the OBD II diagnostic port. The hardest part was mounting the Evolution CTS digital gauge display (snapping the unit into the mounting bracket that mounts to the windshield using a suction cup). From there all we had to do was follow a few simple steps through the menu of the programmer and in no time at all we had ourselves a lot more power than what we’d previously enjoyed.

02. Half the installation consists of plugging into the OBD II diagnostic connector under the dash. The cool thing about the Edge Evolution CTS programmer is that it also doubles as a trouble-code reader. The Evolution CTS programmer also includes a Maintenance Manager feature that allows you to monitor maintenance items and alerts you when services are due and resets itself after they’ve been performed.

03. The Evolution CTS even allows you to reset the speed limiter for your truck. Last time we checked, the truck’s stock governor was still well above the legal speed limit, but it’s great for those who put their diesel on the track or strip.

We took the truck out for a test drive and felt a lot more torque which instantly put a huge smile on our faces, and as soon as we laid into the throttle we realized just how much power we had unlocked. We set our truck to the “Towing” setting and were very happy with our newfound powerband. The Edge Evolution CTS programmer made our truck pull like an aggressive freight train—even with a huge welder and lots of scrap metal strapped down in the truck bed! Needless to say, we’re very impressed with the results of the Evolution CTS programmer. But one of the coolest things about it is all the gauges we can now monitor from its screen—ones that the factory instrument cluster did not include. Not only that, but we now had an onboard diagnostic trouble-code reader, as well as a display monitor for a optional back-up camera that can be introduced into the Edge CTS system.

  • 05. It’s nice being able to get accurate engine parameters while driving down the road! The Evolution CTS can do this because it plugs directly in to the OBD II port allowing it to monitor all your engine vitals. We mounted the Evolution CTS display using the supplied mounting bracket and suction cup. Boost and speed are displaying “zero” because we didn’t want to shoot pics while driving the truck.

We were really impressed with just how much power we got out of the Towing setting from the Evolution CTS programmer but we were even more impressed when we realized we had a huge heavy welder strapped to the bed and couldn’t even feel the extra weight when we took off down the road. From our road tests we determined the Evolution CTS programmer definitely packed a punch, and then some!
