Have you ever felt like your exploits were wasted on your eyes only? You can tell people what you did, or how you did it, but are they really going to believe you? Wouldn’t it be better if you could show them what you had done? That’s why you need a GoPro Hero camera.

For less than $300, you can be the action star of your own video clips using either a Hero or Hero2 HD video camera system. Both the Hero and Hero2 shoot in 1920x1080 pixel high-resolution (or less depending on setting), but a Hero2 kit is about $60 more (still only $299), has a slightly better lens, better low-light capability, and can shoot up to ten 11MB photo images in one second (the original Hero shoots three 5MB pics in one second). For this price, we imagine that any outdoor enthusiast would jump at the chance of easily capturing those priceless moments that he/she has already missed so many times before.

The biggest complaint of GoPro users is the lack of video screen on the Hero cams. Well, there’s a reason: That would require extra room and not allow the camera itself to be as small. But for those who insist on having a screen, there is an optional LCD BacPac that snaps onto the back of a Hero and allows a user to see video and where the camera is pointed. The LCD Bacpac also comes with new backdoors to the impact-resistant housing (including waterproof ones) that protects the LCD screen as well.

The 3D Hero System allows two cameras to be stacked together in an impact-resistant housing using a 3D Hero sync cable. Together, the two Hero cameras will create a three-dimensional video of whatever experience it’s filming. It comes with the waterproof twin-camera housing, the sync cable, three pairs of 3D glasses, and miscellaneous mounting hardware and adhesive mounts to stick it anywhere or connect to other GoPro attachments like the windshield mount.

If you’re an off-roader, a moto rider, or a mountain biker (or just have some tube you have to attach a GoPro camera to), you should check out Daystar’s Pro Mount. It has a standard 1/4-20 thread camera mount to allow a variety of electronic devices to attach to it, and comes with adapters for 7/8-inch, 1 1/2-inch, 1 3/4-inch, or 2-inch tubing. Unfortunately for GoPro fans, there is actually no threaded bung in the Hero cameras, but you can purchase an optional tripod mount adapter from GoPro.

  • If you’re a truck junkie like we all are, then you’d likely want to invest in the Motorsports kit. The Motorsports kit comes with a GoPro, a windshield mount, and a three-way pivoting arm for an infinite amount of attachment angles. It also includes a number of 3M adhesive mounts to stick a Hero camera base on a hood, a frame rail, or wherever you need it to be.

  • The windshield mount has to be one of our favorites. It’s easy, sticks anywhere on the glass, and doesn’t come off while we’re driving. Just remember not to block the driver’s visibility with it.

  • If you spend a lot of time outside of the truck and on foot or two wheels, then the Helmet Hero kit would be great for you. It comes with a head strap, a helmet strap, adhesive mounts, and of course a GoPro Hero camera.
