Corbeau Baja Xp Suspension Seat Baja Xp Seat Installed

It had been some time since my old K5 Blazer had gotten any bit of time or work dedicated to it. It sat outside for too long with the top off, and the seats faded and the fabric was starting to get abrasive and fatigued. It was time for some new seats to renew this ride, and I’d heard that Corbeau had a new suspension seat out—the Baja XP—which had a whole helluva lot of support, but also fit up to a 40-inch waist—something really important for bigger guys. I ordered up a pair and took them to SMP Fabworks to have them installed and to start the rejuvenation of my K5 Blazer.

  • The bottom cushion is removable. Shorter or taller cushions can be installed in the seat to adjust the ride height of the seat. I stuck with the standard cushion that came with the seat. The seat is covered with extra-durable, automotive-grade cloth and vinyl that also contain some serious UV inhibitors—a good thing for me since my Blazer doesn’t have a hardtop.

  • The Baja XP suspension seat is laced military-grade suspension cords and reinforced with nylon, which helps to absorb energy upon impact. The bottom of the seat has vertical mounting tabs for affixing directly to a rollcage in a fixed position. We got a Baja adapter (already mounted on the bottom of the seat) to allow us to add sliders before mounting the seats on our rollcage.

  • Steven Parks, master fabber of SMP Fabworks, cut out the old seat cage and built a new one. The Baja XPs are quite large seats—larger than most other suspension seats we’ve seen—and therefore sit up higher. Parks built the cage with a much lower profile so that the seats were low enough to keep heads from hitting rollcage bars.

  • Corbeau has sliders, but their Baja adapter will also fit a number of other universal sliders if you’re replacing seats and already have some.

  • The Baja XP is a deep seat, but not so deep that you cannot climb out of it.
