Putting A Bestop Supertop On Your Truck

The Shell That Collapses

Super Top For Your Truck Collapsible Shell Frame

Truck shells are a cool way of keeping stuff securely in the bed out of the elements, but when you need to remove it, you’ll wish you never had a shell to begin with. Even though most shells are fiberglass, they weigh a fair amount and require a two-person carry. And if your truck is lifted at all, good luck manhandling the shell off the bed without breaking your back! Bestop now has a solution for those who want the benefits of a camper in a robust but light package.

The Supertop is made of a durable weather-resistant fabric. The best part about it is that it’s easily removable and you can fold it out of the way to hook up to a fifth-wheel trailer or put large things inside the bed. The Supertop is available for just about every truck application, from midsize trucks to fullsize, long-bed trucks. It also makes for perfect sleeping quarters when out on the trail.

It doubles as a great shelter for cargo, or makes an excellent tent for camping. If you need to carry something large or load something into the bed, the Supertop quickly folds towards the cab and out of the way, with straps to secure it in place.

Editor Jerrod Jones Weighs in
Since I’m the one often driving the company Super Duty, I figured I’d put in my two cents: Truthfully, I think it makes our particular truck a little ugly. Our truck’s fiberglass bedsides have a 6-inch bulge that makes it look like it has a “muffin top” with the Supertop on it. On other trucks, I know the shell looks much better.

As far as function goes, I love it. The first day it was on, I put a bunch of empty cardboard boxes and my mountain bike in the back. The boxes stayed in place under the Supertop shell as I drove down the freeway. Later, I picked up a V-8 engine and was able to fold the top down so I could load the engine into the bed. It’s not really lockable if a thief has a knife, but it’s better protection than an open bed, so I like that, too. Plus, now I have somewhere to sleep. The back seat of the Super Duty was starting to get old.
