The tread pattern features the same strake and chamfer elements as the race tire-design technology used to make sure that the tire lugs get excellent traction while not ripping off. Though the tread pattern looks the same, it's molded out of a different rubber compound better suited for highway use and increased wear resistance.

After spending about a month on the DOT-approved Grabbers, our tester has high praises for them. Dirt and rock traction on moderate to hardcore trails was surprisingly good. The Grabbers didn't chip apart in sharp rocks, and they seemed to still have enough tread depth to get bite in looser terrain. The highway ride wasn't bad either. Though they're not as quiet as an all terrain, they are more silent than a mud terrain, and have better wet-weather traction than most mud terrains.

Our tester managed to find a little snow and ice, and at the same time found the limits of these tires. The lack of siping makes snowy highway rides a little slick and doesn't pick up great traction in moderate snow. It's no surprise since this tire was originally designed for desert racing.
