The tracker fits comfortably...
The tracker fits comfortably in your hand and carries a little weight to it. It is small enough to fit in your backpack when hiking, but is a little too big for a standard pocket. It is a GPS device, which means in order to work properly it must have a clear view of the sky at all times. Spot designed the device to be extremely simple to use, the activation buttons are laid out very easy to read and push in case your emergency leaves you without a full range of motion. The four buttons include "Help," "On/Off," "OK," and "911." "Help" allows you to request help from a registered friend or family member at your exact location. "OK" let's you track your progress via Google Maps and lets your contacts know that you are OK, and "911" dispatches emergency responders to your exact location.

How many times have you been off-road, completely out of cell-phone coverage? Whether behind the wheel of a race truck, 'wheeling with your friends in the desert, or even traversing a mountain pass on foot, the ability to reach help when needed is invaluable. This is when the Spot device is at its best. It acts as an emergency GPS beacon that will let rescue teams find you should you have a bit of trouble. On top of that, friends and family can use the same technology to track your progress during a trip into the outdoors.
After seeing countless little orange boxes appear across the body panels of race trucks over the past year, we finally got our hands on one to see what it was all about.
We highly recommend this product for anyone who ventures into the great outdoors. For more information on the Spot tracker, please visit: www.findmespot.com.
After purchasing your device... After purchasing your device the setup process is quick and easy. Sign in to www.findmespot.com and register your device, fill in who you want to be contacted in case of an emergency (your Spot Team), activate your 911 services and you're done. During our testing we were able to track our entire route through numerous canyons. It was really impressive to see the entire route online when we returned home. If we had been in any sort of trouble we could have alerted our Spot Team to where we were in order to get help quickly. Peace of mind goes a long way in our world. | You may have caught the article... You may have caught the article we did on Gary Hough's car in our May 2009 issue. He runs chase and support for a pair of Baja race teams and never leaves home without his Spot device mounted to his roof. He is one of many trucks we have seen carrying the orange lifesaver. During the Mint 400 race held in Las Vegas a few months ago, we spotted over 15 units strapped to roofs and bed cages. | We recently heard of a rescue... We recently heard of a rescue story in one of our local deserts. David Cheney was out with friends near Barstow, California, in a remote location when one of his friends crashed his motorcycle well out of cell-phone range. David quickly pushed the 911 button on his Spot knowing his friend was badly hurt and in need of help. Emergency vehicles arrived quickly and are the reason his friend survived the day. |
