The High Output Compressor...
The High Output Compressor has a clean design with some added flare thanks to the blue anodized aluminum. The kit comes with all the switches, solenoids, and wiring you will need to finish the installation. Under load, the compressor is drawing roughly 23 amps from your electrical system. If you are running the compressor for extended periods, make sure your alternator can handle the extra draw.
Back in 2000, we installed one of the original ARB air locker kits on a rear Dana 60 axle. Having a full locker at the flip of a switch was about the coolest gadget we had ever installed on our test mule. Thanks to its flawless operation over the last abusive nine years, it has proven itself to be well worth the money and is still working just fine. While the original ARB compressor was definitely up to the task of running the air locker, it was strained to handle most other duties. At 29 psi, the first generation compressor could only produce about 0.85 cfm.
Fast forward to present day, and ARB has introduced their new High Output On-Board Air Compressor. With its 50-percent duty cycle, this little beauty will produce 2.65 cfm at 29 psi! That is enough to run two lockers and air up a set of 35-inch tires on a single duty cycle. Its small, efficient design allows it to fit where other high-output compressors wouldn't be able to. Durable, yet lightweight construction enables ARB to sell a similar version of the compressor in a standalone, portable kit as well. Whether you own an ARB air locker or not, their high-output compressors are one of the most redeeming parts that you'll purchase for your rig.

The silver cylinder portion of the new compressor can rotate 360 degrees on its axis to clock the holes for the airlines. For even more adjustability the entire top half of the compressor can swivel to either side of its anodized blue body. | Although we have tons of space... Although we have tons of space under the hood of our '75 Chevy, the new compressor's smaller size and adjustable configuration allows it to be mounted in the overcrowded engine bays of new trucks. | Running the wires was a snap... Running the wires was a snap thanks to the simple, thorough directions that ARB provides with each of its compressors. If you are just replacing an older ARB compressor, make sure to replace all the wiring with the new wiring harness supplied in the kit. Seen here is the older compressor's in-line, 30-amp fuse compared to the High Output's 40-amp blade type, MAXI fuse. |
