Everything You Need to Know About Overdrives - Built-In Or Bolt-On?
|
To gain some more wisdom, we headed over to Orange County Transmissions. Owner Dave Dibs informed us: "The type of transmission used should be determined by the total vehicle package. You wouldn't want to put a weak transmission behind a high-horsepower engine and expect to be able to tow with it. You need to make sure that the total package works together for reliability and performance. For instance, if you have a well-built Ford V-8 backed up by a C-4 transmission and a Gear Vendors overdrive, that wouldn't be a balanced drivetrain package because the C-4 would be the weak link in that chain. We can offer our customers upgraded overdrive automatics, or bolt a Gear Vendors unit on behind an upgraded three-speed. We've had people come over and ask for a Gear Vendors behind an overdrive tranny. We can do it all." This is a 4L80-E set into a work fixture. View Related Article
