But which leveling kit do you buy? There are so many different brands and types that it is hard to chose which one is right for your truck. Well, Bilstein has come up with a solution to that by introducing its 5100 Series leveling shock kit. Unlike typical leveling kits that use either a strut extender or spring preload spacer, the Bilstein 5100 leveling shock is a complete replacement shock. While the strut extender type of leveling kit can cause ball-joint bind and the preload spacer a loss of down travel, Bilstein has addressed these issues with the 5100 leveling shock and created a product that is a great solution. The 5100 leveling shock is designed to maximize wheel travel adding 1 to 2 inches of overall travel without inducing any ball-joint or driveline bind. The Bilstein unit also offers better dampening and rebound control than the stock shock to compensate for the added spring preload used to level the truck. In addition to the increased travel and better dampening, the 5100 leveling shock comes with three height options from stock to 2.5 inches of lift, depending on the application, and also comes with all OEM grade hardware and is guaranteed to outlast your vehicle or they will replace them for free. At a cost of about $300, this truly is the right way to level your truck. We began the install by removing the stock strut and disassembling it per the instructions.
