Dodge trucks can be beasts both on- and off-road providing plenty of power and performance no matter what your heart desires. During a recent trip to Seattle, Washington, we got to spend some time wheeling in the snowy mountains surrounding this forest-lined city. Our test truck was a '06 Dodge Ram 4x4 1/2-ton loaded up with Pro Comp Motorsports' new IFS suspension system as well as Pro Comp Xtreme MT tires on Pro Comp Wheels. Just miles away from a busy city life you can find endless miles of trails from mild to wild. Here is a look at the goods we installed on the truck. And while we were there, we got to head out in the dirt, mud, and snow for some driving impressions with the owner of this truck, Seth Green.
Driving ImpressionsWe threw everything at our Dodge test truck and it kept on ticking. The new ride height combined with tough 35-inch Pro Comp Xtreme MT tires gave us peace of mind through some decent snowpack. The steering felt controlled, the new coilovers soaked up bumps with ease and the ride height allowed us to escape under belly rock damage. During a few high-speed sections we noticed a slight vibration which we all felt was most likely caused by the drop brackets, but this is not uncommon with this type of suspension lift. And it's nothing that will likely lead to any problems in the future. A quick post-ride inspection proved that everything was still tight.
Pro Comp's Xtreme MT tires shined, leaving us plenty of traction both on and off road. This model tire is one of the few Mud Terrain-specific tires we recommend for all conditions. Would we recommend you give Pro Comp a call? You bet.
Our truck when stock performed... Our truck when stock performed great, but we knew the trails we planned on hitting would require a taller ride height for clearance and some additional abuse strength. It was snowing during our trip, which provided excellent test grounds for the suspension. Before the trip concluded, we threw rocks, mud, snow, and ice under our Dodge. | There are simple bolt-on suspension... There are simple bolt-on suspension systems and then there are kits that require the help of a professional mechanic. This Pro Comp kit is the latter. The installation process is extensive and we strongly suggest you let your local 4 wheel drive shop handle this one. If you do tackle this in your driveway please be sure to thoroughly read your included instructions and have a couple friends handy. There is no way we could cover the entire install of this kit so here are a few important points and features we thought you should know. | |
