We started on the top of the engine for simplicity's sake. We've changed alternators in about five minutes at a gas station before, so we'd feel comfortable recommending that even a novice wrencher try it. Our Powermaster high-amp alternator was rated for about 140 amps, but ours puts out 168 amps at 14.8 volts during highway speeds and 97 amps at idle.
