Brakes on newer vehicles are performing better and better with every passing year. Unfortunately, some of this braking performance is lost when using larger tires and adding weight to your truck. Aftermarket brake kits can easily get into the four-figure range, and many times, that means running a bigger wheel than what you can from the factory.
But as technology advances, better materials and designs have led to improved factory replacement equipment, and there are brake upgrades available that don't require you to swap to a larger rotor. Stainless Steel Brakes has come out with a Big Bite cross-drilled rotor line that replaces the factory equipment with a drilled and slotted rotor no bigger than what came on your vehicle stock. These rotors, along with SSBC's available high-performance brake pads, can give you back some of that great stopping performance your truck came with when it was still stock. The rotors and pads are a fraction of the price of a big brake kit and still give you decreased stopping distance in the time it takes you to do a normal brake job.
SSBC has high-performance... SSBC has high-performance brake pads available to match up to the rotor made by Performance Friction. They are made of a metallic compound that is said to last longer, even though it provides a better bite into the rotor. They also won't chew up rotors or coat them like ceramic brake pads can. The taper on the pads gives a cleaner bite on the rotor and keeps pads quiet. | The SSBC brake pads come with... The SSBC brake pads come with all the necessary clips/brackets to install into the factory calipers. | Before we installed the pads,... Before we installed the pads, we used an old pad and caliper tool to depress the caliper's piston to allow the larger (unused) pads to fit in the caliper and around the rotor. |

SSBC's Big Bite rotors are CNC precision drilled and mill slotted to dissipate water better, improving performance and safety in the rain. The "Precision Turbo" slotting maintains a clean pad surface, ensuring maximum grip on the rotors. The rotors are also vented with internal vanes to help cool the rotor by forcing air through it. SSBC claims that the cross-drilling pattern on its rotors can reduce brake heat by up to 200 degrees F. | In most of today's brake applications,... In most of today's brake applications, the rotor will usually slide right on in place of the OEM one after the brake caliper is removed. In some heavy-duty applications, you might have to remove the hub to get to the rotor. |
