We took the truck out for a good portion of the morning, with nice weather. We then suited up in MX gear as it began to rain, and proceeded to ride the entire time it rained. Once it cleared up again, the truck got in some good runs and dominated some puddles, which sounded awesome from camp. Awesome time was had by all. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c364/mlthomps/IMG_0116.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c364/mlthomps/IMG_0121.jpg

I currently live in the Gulf (Qatar). A few days ago, I was out driving in the desert with my friend and his 60+ mother. In this desert there's a “highway” comprising of heavily compacted sand, but along the way you'll have to negotiate a few minor dunes (up to about 10 feet high, but with a shallow incline). It was when we negotiated one of these dunes that my side curtain airbags (both sides) spontaneously deployed. Obviously, it scared the living cr.p out of us. After we realized what happened, I drove the car a few feet to a safe area and inspected the car. There is absolutely no damage the bodywork or the undercarriage of the car and the car drives perfectly. The only visible damage is the obvious from the deployment of the airbags and the fact that the front seat belts have locked up, rendering them useless. The car is still under warranty and I took the car back to the dealer. He agreed that it was a warranty issue. He sent me to the service center, but the guy there said that it was my own fault and that it is NOT covered under warranty (although the mechanic at Chevy disagreed with him). I realize that there's a certain potential of damaging your car when driving off road, and I had anticipated a lot of scenarios, but definitely not this one. I have driven quite a bit in the desert in this car, and done maneuvers that are more demanding than this one, but due to my friends older mother's wish to “just see” the desert, we took an easy drive. Now my questions are as follows: 1)The service center has pulled the Event Data Recorder (EDR) and says that, if it shows that I have been in a situation where the airbags should deploy, the warranty will not cover. My feeling is that, of course, the EDR will show that the airbags should deploy, otherwise it wouldn't have deployed. Does anyone have any experience with faulty sensors on this kind of car? I know in some cases there have been issues when the sensors have been wet, but what about dust? 2)The Gulf is a bit of a wild west, in terms of consumer rights. If they continue to claim that this was my own fault, is there anyone at GM here in the states that I can contact, in order to have them assess the situation? Finally, I would much appreciate if any of you experienced off roaders out there have any ideas or suggestions on about how to go about this. Thanks a lot..

I'm looking forward to adding parts in the future also (lift, tires, etc.). At the moment im stuck between three trucks, Ford's FX4, Dodge's Ram, and Chevy's Silverado Z71. Im not too familiar with Toyotas or Nissans as I've always had domestic vehicles. Im not a SERIOUS offroader but i do like mudding, hills, and sand. So i guess my question is, which one is better for what i intend to do? Which has better perks? Thank you and i look forward to seeing you guys around the Forum! The 75-81262 represents the most sophisticated intake design available for the 6.4L Power Stroke. This Stage 2 sealed air intake system utilizes specially designed intake tubes that are designed to maximize air velocity and improve horsepower, torque, MPG and throttle response. The durable, roto-molded plastic intake box, blocks out engine heat and installs using factory mounting locations. A Dynamic Air Scoop (D.A.S.) is also included to deliver outside air from the front grille location for lowered intake temperatures and increased performance. This system comes with the 7-layer PRO Guard 7 performance air filter for maximum filtration and protection. In recent testing, this system gained 28 hp and 54 lbs x ft of torque and outflowed the factory intake by 41%. For complete test data, please visit aFepower.com. Part Number 75-81262 retails for around $479.85 and is available in stores now. So what do you do to a truck that is already powerful...well ADD MORE POWER!! That's exactly what Hennessy did and went all out for it. The VelociRaptor 500, dubbed that way by Hennessy, adds 200 horses with a Whipple supercharger–boosting performance to 500 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque. Hennessy also added a K&N air filter, upgraded fuel injectors, stainless steel headers and stainless steel exhaust while retuning the ECU. You can get the package at $10,950 (package only) or $14,995 with installation according to Hennessy. Any thoughts?? Black Hills, SD Sept 2nd - 6th
DAKOTA TERRITORY CHALLENGE 2010 FOUR-WHEELING IN THE BLACK HILLS OF SOUTH DAKOTA Dear Four Wheeling Enthusiast: The Black Hills 4-Wheelers are proud to present the 28th ANNUAL DAKOTA TERRITORY CHALLENGE. We would like to invite you to join us in kicking off a new decade of wheeling, broken parts and big smiles at the DTC. The Challenge will be held September 2nd through September 6th, 2010. The Dakota Territory Challenge offers a variety of trails with several levels of difficulty. We have trails that are just for you whether you like scenic tours, moderate trails, or technical rock crawling. Trail ratings are assigned so that you know the vehicle requirements for each and trail descriptions will be posted in the registration tent at the event. All vehicles will undergo a technical inspection and will be ranked based on the vehicle requirements listed in the trail ratings. Please review the vehicle requirements and come prepared. We are pleased to announce that the event headquarters will be at the Whispering Pines Campground again this year. The General Store has a full line of groceries, snack bar and western style gift shop. With breakfast specials every morning, sack lunches available for lunch on the trail and a supper special each night when you return you won’t go hungry! The campground is located at the intersection of US Highway 385 and the Silver City junction. In addition to our normal camping, Whispering Pines has four cabins and one house for rent. Call 605-341-3667 for reservations if you are interested in the rentals or if you will be arriving early for the Challenge. You can also check their web site www.blackhillswhisperingpines.com. Camping spots are on a first come first serve basis. Please check in with the campground upon arrival. If arriving late you must park on the gravel road around the store. Do not pull into a campsite without registering. The DTC 2010 fee for each vehicle, its driver, and four nights of camping is $200. Each additional passenger age 16 and older will be charged $60. A new change for the event this year is that the 2010 Challenge registered vehicles allowed has been reduced to 75. So don’t delay, get your applications in quickly. Registration deadline is May 15, 2010. Registrations will be processed using a lottery system. All registrations will be assigned a number as they are received and a drawing will be held after the deadline date of May 15th, 2010. If there are still spots open after the deadline we will keep registration open until the event is filled. If you want to attend the event with friends, put all your registrations together in the same envelope. Multiple registrations in one envelope will be drawn together during the lottery. Cancellations prior to July 1st, 2010 will be refunded after the Challenge. Cancellations after July 1st, 2010 are non-refundable. Registration transfers will be accepted if notification of the transfer is received by August 15th, 2010. Please make sure that you sign the back of the application before you mail it in. A $35 NSF fee will be charged for any returned checks. We offer sweatshirts, T-shirts, hats, coffee mugs and pins imprinted with the Challenge logo. If you would like any of this merchandise, please send your order and payment with your registration. Should you need more information or help with a specific situation, please write or call us. Applications can be downloaded here: http://www.bh4wheelers.com/ There is contact info listed on the applications if you need any additional information or have questions.
