November 2007 Off-Road Rides - Readers Rides

Jason Cook of St. Clair, Missouri, sent us these photos of his bone-stock '04 Jeep Rubicon. The unfortunate stuck mishap occurred on a weekend outing with Jason's buddy Steve Calabro at the Mounds ORV Park in Michigan. While driving along, Jason and Steve came across a giant mud pit and figured why not give it a shot. Well, the mud pit took full advantage of the stock height of his Jeep and left him a bit stranded. Fortunately, he wasn't off-roading alone and his buddy was able to give him a successful yank out of the pit to safety. With a little more experience under his belt, Jason tells us that a suspension modification and a good, strong winch are in store for his Rubicon.

Jason Ratcliff's '94 Toyota truck has graced the pages of Off-Road before. In our recent coverage of the Easter Jeep Safari ("Truckin' Moab, Part II," Sept. '07), his ride appeared climbing over some rather difficult rock gardens. As you can see from the images he sent us, his truck is more than equipped to take on the trails in Moab. Just a few of his modifications and additions include a solid-axle swap, a 4.3L Vortec V6 engine, a 6-inch custom-made suspension lift, hydro-assist steering, a three-link rear suspension using 6-inch Fabtech TJ coils, and an exterior 'cage for supreme rock protection. Underneath all that is a set of 37-inch Irok tires wrapped around Weld beadlock wheels.
