Being an off-road icon in the aftermarket industry is a major challenge with today's tough standards. No one knows this better than Lonnie McCurry Sr. of Skyjacker, with its menagerie of suspension lifts and Rock-Ready components. The Louisiana-based company has been building truck and jeep suspension parts since its debut in the mid-'70s. Throughout the past 28 years of business, Lonnie says, "We engineered the definition of what a quality suspension should be: a suspension system that works in form and function to the highest level of achievement possible with the highest quality of materials and resources available."
None of these principles were overlooked when the engineers at Skyjacker built its 8-inch lift kit for the F-350 series 4x4 pickup. The '01 Skyjacker dualie show truck was displayed this last year at SEMA. Dubbed the Double Duty Dually (DDD or Triple D), the massive hauler puts to use all of Skyjackers best qualities. Softride springs lift the truck but are set up with ride comfort in mind. Damping the massive springs was done through a set of Platinum Series gas shocks. Filling the Fords wheelwells are six 38-inch Swampers stretched over a set of Ultra Wheels with Dually Type 12 rims.
Hauling the goods with bigger tires was made easy thanks to two sets of 4:56 ring-and-pinions from Precision Gear. The 7.3L diesel powerplant was aided with a Gibson Performance 3-inch exhaust and a K&N filter for enhanced huffin'. With the engine breathing more air, the Ford ECM supplies the engine with more fuel via a Street & Performance Electronics computer module.
Bushwacker fender flares keep tire motivated particles at bay and enhance the front finder lines of the F-350. A Warn winch gives Triple D the ability to pull itself free from most any sticky situation. Warn brushguard and trail lamps cover the rouged winch and blend into the Distinctive Truck Accessories-chromed bumper nicely. Trenz billet works are inlayed to the grille section of the front clip for a clean look. The bed is covered with a Leer bed shell, which extends the cab lines the full length of the bed.
DDD's white canvas hulk was taped and sprayed by James Stallen of Xtreme Paint & Graphics in Nacogdoches, Texas, using House Of Kolors Magic Blue, Red Pearl, and Gold. It doesn't matter if he's dragging the show truck to SEMA or taking the family on a desert safari, Lonnie has the security of knowing his toy hauler is ready for action.
