One of the biggest reasons for owning a diesel truck is having the ability to tow an enormous amount of weight with ease. Chris Vorhies wanted to take his 2007 Ford F-250 Super Duty one step further and be able to pull anything he hitched up to—even at sled pull events. Chris wasn’t too fond of the original 6.0L Power Stroke that came in his Super Duty so he decided to swap in a 6.7L 24-valve Cummins inline-six. Since Chris works at ATS Diesel and is around high-powered diesel trucks everyday, he couldn’t just swap in a stock Cummins engine and leave well enough alone. Instead, he mounted a 62mm turbo atop the S475 turbo and added an ATS intercooler along with an ATS three-piece manifold and DDP 100hp injectors to pump out 700 horsepower and 1,586 lb-ft of earth-moving torque.

Since Chris works for ATS Diesel, it’s only natural that he entrusted transmission duties to one of their Stage 4 Allison A1000 five-speed automatics. It’s built with heavy-duty shafts, clutches and bands and uses a deep sump oil pan for extra oil capacity. A 5-Star torque converter delivers the power from the Cummins to the Allison. Chris tells us the Allison A1000 five-speed has been able to handle the power of the Cummins easily while being incredibly reliable at sled pull events.

Chris wanted a transmission that could survive under the stresses of heavy sled pulls, so he decided to swap in an ATS Stage 4 Allison A1000 five-speed automatic with an ATS 5-Star torque converter to handle the toughest loads without skipping a beat. Not only can this Super Duty easily tow the heaviest of loads, it can also move down the track faster than most. Chris’ best time has been 12.7 seconds at 108 mph in the 1/4 mile at Bandimere Speedway in Lakewood, Colorado. With the help of ATS Diesel and Rockin S Performance, Chris has created a Super Duty worthy of drooling over.

A 4-inch Pro Comp lift kit gives enough clearance to run 33-inch tires while Bilstein 5100 shocks soften the ride down the road. Bilstein dual steering stabilizers keep the Super Duty’s steering in check when pulling heavy sleds.

  • An Air Dog 150 air/fuel separator ensures the 6.7L Cummins gets the proper amount of clean fuel it needs while eliminating any water or vapor from the fuel system. A one-piece rear driveshaft allows the Super Duty to constantly make heavy pulls without the driveshaft falling apart. Chris installed driveshaft safety loops in case of a driveshaft failure while running sled pull events.
