If it’s one thing that off-roaders need, it’s a dedicated tow rig that they can use to haul toys and trailers without hesitance. That’s just what Jason Arce was thinking when he set out to build this immaculate Chevy tow rig.

Jason wanted a truck that he could enter into some truck shows while also being able to tow a loaded 30-foot enclosed trailer down the highway with ease. But Jason also loves lifted trucks and knew he wanted a generous amount of lift to clear 40-inch tires, so he turned to his good friend Tim Lucero at Ikonz Customs in Denver, Colorado, for the installation of the 12-inch Cognito Motorsports lift kit. Jason had the truck built in less than a year thanks to help from Tim, another friend named Tyler, and his supportive wife, Christi.

Since Jason is employed by ATS Diesel, it’s no surprise he modified the 6.6L Duramax to pump out 560 hp and 1092 lb-ft of stump-pulling torque. Jason swapped out the injectors in favor of 90hp injector nozzles as well as PPE fuel rail fittings and shim kit along with an AEM cold air intake and ATS manifolds and up pipe. If you were at SEMA last year, you might have seen Jason’s truck there under the ATS banner. Jason tells us that despite being lifted 12 inches and running 40-inch tires, the truck rides really well and has plenty of stability while rolling down the highway with even the heaviest of loads – which by the way are no match for his truck’s quadruple-digit torque numbers!

  • Eight-inch-taller Deaver rear leaf springs, along with the factory 2-inch blocks, give enough clearance for 40-inch tires while also delivering a smooth comfortable ride even when towing down the highway. Fox 2.0 chrome reservoir shocks allow the bowtie to handle dirt roads with ease while a heavy duty ATS extra capacity aluminum differential cover provides protection against jagged rocks.

  • Tim Lucero at Ikonz Customs in Denver, Colorado, got to work removing the stock suspension and installed the 12 inch Cognito Motorsports lift kit. The Cognito lift kit drops the front differential to improve driveline angle while a Tom Wood’s dual CV front driveshaft prevents any bind issues.

  • Jason decided to use four Fox Racing Shox 2.0 chrome reservoir shocks up front to keep his tow rig stable while towing down the highway or in the event he ventures out into the dirt. Cognito heavy-duty upper A-arms replace the factory units in order to hold up to the stresses of 40-inch tires.
