To say that Randy Shoaff has some racing experience is like saying Mickey Mouse has been in a few pictures. Starting at the age of 10, Randy began his days in the dirt racing motocross. Due to numerous injuries, he hung up two-wheel racing and built his first truck to race the Baja de Saddleback. With a pair of championships under his belt, he moved up to race Class 1 short-course cars, which quickly led him to build a Class 8 truck after wanting even more power.

A few years later Randy was married, and his passion for off-road racing was put on hold. As quickly as he was married, the divorce papers came, and back to racing he went. Wanting to try something new, Randy purchased a hydro drag-racing boat and tested his nerves over water. Racing on water didn’t last long: It scared the crap out of me, Randy said.

With the boat on the auction block, he was back to the dirt again, racing a Class 8 with Bob Delozier and a 1-2-1600 car with Josh Baldwin. After that fizzled, he tried Sprint cars at Perris Speedway and ended up hating that more than boat racing. Shortly after that, he began helping his brother Mark race Class 8 in SCORE, MDR and BITD with Pac-West Motorsports and also Pro-2 in CORR.

So, where is Randy now? He is living in Oregon as a hay farmer and rancher, raising bulls. When not on the farm, he is in his shop, Metal Werks Customs, building gorgeous race-inspired trucks, such as this ’98 Ford F-150.

Racing is a very addictive legal drug that I will never be able to shake, Randy said at the conclusion of our photo shoot. I’ve gone broke and seen relationships die because of my passion. I will never stop doing what I love.
