1995 Ford F150 2WD - Prerunning With Heritage

A Classic Look With An Up-to-Date Build

We can't imagine what it was like prerunning in "stockish" trucks when original Stroppe-prepped Broncos were winning the Baja 1000. The beatings those brave souls must have endured in those trucks is mind-boggling. Craig Anderson grew up watching the desert racers of the past, and eventually started prerunning for some race teams. When it came time to build his current F-150 into a prerunner capable of handling the race course, he turned to Central Coast Prerunners to get the job done.

  • Remembering the famous Stroppe-equipped Broncos that inspired him in his youth, Craig wanted to canvas the truck in a style reminiscent of the original racers.

  • This truck introduces itself as a prerunner. Glassworks fenders cover the BFG Baja T/As and a Central Coast Prerunners (CCP) front bumper follows the front end closely and gives just enough protection to prevent the bodywork from being crushed. Three Hella 4000 lights with HID conversion kits sit on the front bar.

  • Camburg extended I-beams were added to a CCP strut frame. CCP added 4.5-inch spacers to the stock steering linkage to account for the 4.5-inch-wider-per-side track width. King 2.5 14-inch-stroke coilovers with dual-rate coils suspend the front end.

  • Camburg radius arms pivot on 1.25-inch Heim joints off of bolt-on frame mounts. King 2.5 shorty 2.5-inch-stroke hydraulic bumpstops stop any harsh hits. The King 2.5 shorty bumpstops don't have the long body of a normal 4-inch stroke 2.5 bumpstop, and can be installed in much tighter spaces. You can also see the solid aluminum body mounts that replaced the rubber when the tip-to-tip rollcage was installed. CCP built skidplates and guards to protect the vitals under the truck.

  • Out back sits a Sandy Cone-built 9-inch rear end that's been trussed across the back for extra rigidity and strength in the housing. It has full-floating hubs, disc brakes, a spool and 4.56 gears. Deaver leaf packs support the rear of the truck while 16-inch-stroke King 2.5 external bypass shocks absorb the rough roads. Full 4-inch-stroke King 2.5 hydraulic bumpstops adorn the frame over the rear axle.

  • A 42-gallon fuel cell is placed as far towards the cab as possible to keep weight centered in the vehicle. The Optima Red Top battery was squeezed right next to it as well. CCP did the 'cage work using 1.75-inch 0.120-wall tubing, and placed a custom box with two red and one amber LED lights to be visible to tailing drivers in dusty conditions.

  • CCP designed the rollcage to protect in a nasty accident, but still be easily accessible to entry and exit of the vehicle since this is a prerunner. CCP also made a bracket to hold the breaker bar and socket for removing the wheel lugs.
