2004 Chevy Silverado Prerunner - Chevy Chase

Garage Built And Ready To Run

By Jordan May, Photography by Jordan May

If you have had custom work done to your truck, Jeep or racecar at Off-Road Evolution, then Nate Chisholm has probably worked on your rig. On top of building vehicles for guys like us, Nate also built himself a pretty badass '04 Chevy Silverado prerunner. For most of us, this truck is already done up enough to have plenty of fun. Nate tells us that he has a slew of future plans to make this Chevy faster, stronger and tougher than ever. Round one is already something most of us would love to have parked in our driveway; we can't wait to see where round two leads him.

  • Nate wanted to create a solid chassis for his truck so he wrapped it in 1 3/4 and 1 1/2-chromoly tube. This will insure a strong life for his truck considering the pounding he puts on it. Center mounted in front of the dual spare tires is an electronic transmission cooler. You can tell Nate is a fabricator-all of the welds are clean and every piece of tube has a job.

  • More shock means more oil, which means more cooling, which in turn leads to more time able to be spent on the throttle. Massive 18-inch stroke King 3.0 quad bypass shocks are found in the rear. Combined with a Deaver Springs prerunner leaf pack, the trucks rear suspension travels 18 inches.

  • All that wheel travel wouldn't be possible without a custom set of shackles. These upward mounted shackles allow the rear end to droop properly. Check out the mounting for the shackles. Those babies won't be breaking, that's for sure.

  • Under the truck is a Currie Enterprises 9-inch rear end stuffed with 4.56 gears, 35-spline axles and a Detroit locker. Nate added a traction bar as well mounted atop the rear pumpkin to aid in stability. Rear suspension systems in trucks like this flying at high speeds over tall whoops have a tendency to swing out side to side. The addition of the traction bar should help keep this truck in line.

  • The front suspension is a CST Chevy long travel kit with a few custom modifications. Nate fabricated custom mounts for the 8-inch King coilovers and King 2-inch air bumps. A strike pad was added on top of the spindle for the air bumps to hit.....

  • .....Front wheel travel measures in at 15-inches. Nate also added his own custom Heim joint steering system. Although the CST kit has been solid, Nate tells us he plans on building his own center mounted A-arm kit that will run coilovers and bypass shocks very soon. That most likely means we'll see a rear four-link come into play as well.

  • Under the hood is the OEM 5.3L Vortec engine that has been injected with more horsepower via a Hypertech programmer and Volant cold air intake. The transmission is a 4L60E with a B&M shift kit.

  • Nate chose 35-inch BFGoodrich ATKO tires and Axis wheels for his truck. This truck is also his daily driver, which means he wanted an all-around performing set of rubber.
