TLC's FJ40 Land Cruiser - Style For The Tough

The year 2007 marked the 50th anniversary of Toyota in America and 40 years of the legendary SCORE Baja 1000. In 1973, Toyota won its first off-road race - the Baja 1000 - in an FJ40 Land Cruiser. TLC commemorates these two anniversaries with the new SCORE Baja 1000 Limited Edition Icon.

Featuring the top designs and equipment gathered from the last four decades of off-road racing, the SCORE Baja 1000 Limited Edition Icon is ready for all on- and off-road adventures. TLC has pulled out all the stops developing and designing it, and these exclusive designs may be incorporated into regular production Icon models in the near future.

TLC's new vehicle began life as a singular prototype in celebration of these two special anniversaries. If you want to wrap your hands around the steering wheel of your very own Baja Icon you can, but quantities are limited. Pricing starts at $84,000 for the '08 Icon with two new body-style offerings, including a pickup and a 22-inch stretched-wheelbase variant of the original model. The special SCORE Baja 1000 Limited Edition Icon is expected to be priced at $145,000.

The innovation involved with Jonathan Ward's designs at TLC is something to brag about. On top of that, TLC only runs the highest-quality components in its vehicles. Some of those features include a highly durable, clear velvet powdercoated, hand-brushed aluminum body with black crocodile powdercoated trim. The dash is a textured pewter finish with Racepak instruments and Lowrance navigation. The bed space is filled with full recovery gear and adventure support systems: a racing jack, a Power Tank, an ARB air compressor, a Warn XD cradle-mount winch, an IPF HID lighting system, and a rockin' stereo system made to be heard above the engine's roar.

Pop the hood and you will discover a 450hp alloy LS6 delivering power through a modified 4L65E automatic and a shift-on-the-fly Atlas II transfer case to 1-ton Dynatrac axles. The suspension is controlled by an advanced triangulated four-link coil suspension with Sway-A-Way RaceRunner remote-reservoir coilover shocks and nitrogen bumpstops, DJ Safety limiter straps, and dual sway bars. Combined, this setup is more than enough to soak up safe landings.

The Baja Icon is set to be built by a special Advanced Projects Team at TLC in Los Angeles, California. Although all Icons are handbuilt, the Baja will be built off-line, and crafted by the designer and the original fabrication team in a numbered and signed series. As part of the buying experience, TLC will offer an optional driver training course at Wide Open Baja.
