2005 Ford F150 4x4 - Super Crew F-150

This Daily Driven SuperCrew Is An On-and Off-road Hero

Todd Jorgensen, director of retail operations for EK USA in Logan, Utah, needs a daily driver that not only gets him where he needs to be during the week but also works in Moab, Utah; Graze River, Wyoming; and Millville, Utah; his favorite places to go off-road. EK USA manufactures all kinds of products, including webbing (tie-downs, rollcage handles, etc.) and other vehicle accessories such as fire extinguisher holders, cell phone pouches, and so on. The company's also famous for its keepers for glasses, Cat Crap goggle and glasses defogger, and enough other diverse products to fill a store. In fact, Todd is overseeing the development of EK's new retail outlets that you'll soon find in a shopping center near you.

Todd purchased a new '05 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 with 5.4 V8 and automatic tranny because, in his words, "It's the best-built truck in its class, not to mention the best looking."

He took the truck to Mount Logan Off-Road in Logan, Utah, to have the crew there install parts to make his SuperCrew work even better than it does stock.

To start, 3-inch Donahoe Racing coilovers were installed up front, and the preload was adjusted so they give about 2 inches of lift. This leveled the truck and allows 35-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/AKO tires mounted on 20-inch Rozzi Battle wheels to be used. In back, the stock shocks and springs were retained (for now), and Tuff Country add-a-leaves and ladder bars keep spring wrap at bay. Bushwacker fender flares and CRE RockerFlares further protect the SuperCrew from both rock chips and law enforcement. Todd uses a Power Tank to air up after a day in the dirt.

The 5.4 V8 was enhanced with a K&N cold-air intake and a MagnaFlow 3-inch performance exhaust. To help performance even more, an Edge performance chip with Attitude Monitor in the cab was installed. These improvements really woke up the Ford and allow Todd the ability to monitor performance parameters from the cab as well as make adjustments on the fly. When Todd REALLY wants to wake up his SuperCrew, he adds a shot of N2O from the Nitrous Express nitrous oxide kit. Although the ring-and-pinions were left stock, a rear differential cover from Oasis looks good, protects, and adds to the rearend's oil capacity. A Rapid Hitch from Andersen Mfg. handles up to a 10,000-pound trailer and 1,500-pound tongue weight. It's easily adjustable to any trailer's tongue height.

The F-150 SuperCrew already looks great, but Todd added a few more products. A DualLiner bedliner was installed, and a Retrax retractable bedcover protects the Power Tank and Nitrous Express kit in the bed as well as any toys Todd may want to take into the outback. Triple-chrome front grilles from T-Rex replaced the stock OE plastic parts. In the cab, Lynn's Audio Video of Logan, Utah, installed a Jensen touchscreen in-dash multimedia player that keeps occupants entertained on long road trips. Lynn's also installed a custom stealth box subwoofer and the rest of the impressive sound system.

Todd has shown us how a relatively mild-mannered truck can turn into a superhero, or SuperCrew, with a few well-chosen aftermarket parts. The F-150 worked very well during the photo shoot, with a controlled ride off-road and a great ride on the pavement. The truck was powerful and comfortable too. We can say without any reservations that this Ford is a SUPERCrew.

  • Three-inch coilover shocks from Donahoe Racing allow the SuperCrew to be leveled and work great off-road. The valving is perfect, and the F-150 handles ruts and small whoops well.

The Oasis diff cover protects the pumpkin, as well as carries more oil for cooler differentials - even when towing. The F-150 has room in the stock spare location for a 35-inch tire. We think Todd should upgrade and carry the same size spare as he has on the ground.
