John and Nate Williams started Mount Logan Off-Road in Logan, Utah, to build high-end vehicles that push the off-road envelope. Their competition buggies work, and the Jeeps they build are some of the best we've seen. What many don't know is that Mount Logan Off-Road also builds trucks. They build trucks for serious dirt aficionados, and they build trucks for those whose dirt experience is nil. All of their vehicles are worth looking at, as Mount Logan only does quality work.
Nate needs a truck to carry his other toys into the backcountry, whether it's to tow his rock buggy to the trail or to carry his dirt bike to the dirt. Nate's truck gets used every day - just as we use our trucks. He built his '06 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4x4 shortbed with the HO Cummins diesel in it to show just how well a truck can be customized for relatively little cash outlay yet still work as an all-around work and play vehicle.
It's natural that Nate used products from Rock-Slide Engineering, Mount Logan's suspension, armor, and parts company. Rock-Slide Engineering's 5-inch suspension system includes specially tuned 5-inch coil springs, longer adjustable upper and lower control arms, a track-bar relocation bracket, add-a-leaves for the rear spring pack, and Bilstein shocks all around. Since he does some heavy towing, Nate also installed a pair of Air Lift airbags in the rear for use when needed.
To build a great all-around truck, you need to think about more than just suspensions. Although the HO Cummins may be the very best (or at least one of the very best) powerplant in a light pickup today, it can still be improved. For even more horsepower and torque, Nate installed an aFe Stage 2 air-intake system and a Bully Dog downloader with Outlook in-cab monitor so he can dial in his desired performance on the roll.
Thirty-seven-inch BFG Limited Edition Mud-Terrain tires were mounted on 22x10 Moto Metal Series 950 chromed alloy wheels. To keep the mud off the truck, Bushwacker flares were painted to match, and CRE RockerFlares were installed. The CRE RockerFlares protect the rocker panels from salt, mud, and gravel, and they look great too. Rock-Slide Engineering also supplied a prerunner bar so a pair of PIAA lights could be installed.
Nate's Mount Logan Dodge is a simple truck that works. It rides well and performs great both on the pavement and off-road. The performance parts from aFe and Bully Dog add performance without sacrificing reliability. We were able to shoot a few photos of the Ram as Nate was tooling around the backcountry. Mount Logan Off-Road has built a truck that works as well for what it's designed as Mount Logan's competition buggies do. And, it was modified for a reasonable cost too! Good things really do come in big packages.
