Normal fare on race rigs such as this are a pushbar up front and tube bumper in the rear, whether you're the fast one nudging a slower racer in front of you or getting tapped on the rear by an impending Trophy Truck. A Hi-Lift is tucked behind the bumper for desert repairs.

The custom rear cage protects the driver and navigator, supports a spare tire, and houses a 33-gallon steel fuel cell. It's good to have a quantity of gas on board as the V8 sucks down a gallon every 4 miles under race conditions.

The front suspension sports about 14 inches of travel thanks to a set of James Duff coil springs combined with Air Lift bags. The airbags can be adjusted on the fly from inside the cab. On rough course sections, they are left soft for maximum articulation and then firmed up for jumps or whoops as needed. James Duff also supplied the heavy-duty radius arms.

A Fox 2.5 reservoir shock and a Fox 2.0 shock keep the front end movement in check. Upper shock mounts are incorporated into the cage that runs through the engine compartment. Fox nitrogen bumpstops slow the axle compression that final bit to keep the truck from bottoming too roughly off the big jumps.

James Duff 11-leaf packs make up the rear suspension for the trussed Ford 9-inch. Damping for the 16 inches of travel is handled by Fox shocks. Grant runs two or three shocks in the rear depending on the course terrain.

Over nearly 10 years of racing, Grant has been able to collect a few awards and trophies for his efforts. He races regularly at a number of desert and track events in the Southwest.
