Most of you, no doubt, have heard of Full Throttle Suspension. We've featured several of the company's outlandish creations in OR. Most notably, our Apr. '04 cover shot was filled by Full Throttle's insane single-cab Chevy truck ripping through a desert landscape. If you thought the straight-axle conversion and 40-inch rolling stock looked right at home under that truck, you'll love the meats beneath this GMC Hummer H2. Full Throttle pulled out all the stops to lift this SUV more than 20 inches into the air, just so it could tower above 49-inch Interco IROK rubber. That sounds crazy, right?
There's little doubt that a person has to be either nuts or have a ton of expendable currency to order a package like this, but the project was more of a necessity than a plaything for the Full Throttle crew. A true marketing gem, this H2's custom straight-axle conversion and coilover suspension attracts a crowd no matter what trade or truck show it attends, forcing the public's attention directly into Full Throttle's world. Once inside, it's slightly easier to justify the expense of such a creation.
King 2-1/2-inch coilover shocks sit at all four corners of the beast, controlling the motion of the rear Chevy HD axle and front Ford Super Duty axle with 16 inches of travel. Each differential is stuffed with 5.13 cogs from Precision and Detroit Lockers from Tractech. Both axles swing on parallel four-link suspensions, which pivot on a trick bolt-on bracket system attached to the framerails. To keep the rearends from moving laterally and the H2 from toppling over in the corners, chrome-plated Panhard bars were employed, as were heavy-duty antisway bars.
Full Throttle isn't unique because it fabricates a straight- axle conversion. The company stands apart from the rest because it will also install the product and make the four-wheel-drive system fully operational. Most straight-axle trucks we see are lowly showpieces, stuck permanently in two-wheel-drive mode without a front driveline or transfer case. Not so with this H2. An Atlas transfer case puts the Whipple-supercharged 6.0L powerplant's 480-plus ponies to the front wheels via custom-length dual CV drivelines by Tom Wood's Drivelines. Full Throttle also manufacturers its own line of disc-brake conversions, which are present at all four corners on this project.
We could go on and on about the level of insanity that the ARC audio system brings to the interior, or analyze the high-output supercharged engine beneath the hood. Instead, we'll just let this truck do what it's built for and allow the photos to make you drool.
