2000 GMC 2500 4x4 Crew Cab with Baja Claw Tires - Dual Sport - Off-Road

Jack Burns is no stranger to the world of trucks, having been in the trucking business for more than 25 years. Burns & Sons Trucking is a leader in Southern California heavy equipment hauling and loading. Getting around to different job sites at any location is a key part of his business, especially in thriving Southern California suburbs, where they can vary from smooth, graded dirt to nasty hills. Jack's latest purpose-built truck enables him to travel in style and comfort. It's also a very capable off-road vehicle.

With the Baja California Desert a stone's throw away, Jack is able to access all of it with his custom GMC 2500. To do so, Jack had to equip his new 4x4 with the right stuff to do the job. Soon after he took delivery of his new off-roader, he contacted the crew at Race Car Dynamics (aka RCD Suspension). The first few modifications on any off-road-capable truck are a suspension upgrade, wheels, and tires. RCD's staff of engineers immediately went to work and developed the very first Sub-Frame/Replacement Knuckle 6-inch suspension system on the new eight-lug GM chassis platform. The company did not stop there. A front multiple-shock hoop system with Bilstein 7100-Series remote reservoir shocks, stainless steel skidplates, and stainless steel rear Twinn-Link traction arms were also developed to provide exceptional handling, control, and protection.

With the suspension system completed, larger, more aggressive tires were in order. Mickey Thompson 17x9-inch Classic II Wheels mounted with 37x13.50x17 Baja Claw tires were chosen for their unique look and superior traction. In order to complete the wheel and tire fitment, some bodywork was in order, and Dave Willey of Custom Powder Finishing completed the task. Lyle Fisk of Fisk Design Studios in El Cajon, California, was called upon to design the color scheme and to do the custom chameleon graphics and handpainted pinstripes, which add to the unique, one-off look.

To keep the 37-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Claws turning down the road, a 4.56 gearset and Hypertech Power Programmer were installed along with a custom 3-inch Flowmaster exhaust by the crew at Ed Hanson's Muffler Service in Spring Valley, California. Kodiak retractable steps allow even the shortest of us to get inside, while PIAA off-road lights and windshield wipers allow Jack to see at all times.

While Jack's GMC 4x4 is an everyday driver to get to and from his jobs, it also serves him well in his off time. Off-roading is his passion, and doing it in a capable vehicle only adds to his fun. Dual Sport 4x4s are the real-world off-roaders. Let's face it: Not everyone has the luxury of having a purpose-built off-road vehicle and an everyday driver. Jack has the best of both worlds.
