At the age of 25, Casey Scranton, proprietor and president of CGS Motorsports, has owned and customized more than 20 trucks and SUVs -- that's almost one for every year of his life. His obsession with these machines is an inherited trait handed down to him from his father Ron Scranton. Together, the family lives, breathes, designs, and creates truck performance. The Scrantons manufacture quality, high-performance air intake and exhaust systems to support their fastidious truck-building habits, and in our book, this is a normal behavior for any person, especially a new off-roader. After years of lowered-truck performance, Casey's infatuation with these machines has finally led him to the creation of this super-clean '02 four-wheel-drive Dodge Ram.
For his initiation into the sport of off-roading, Casey wanted to build a tall and functional off-road machine -- after all, why have a 4x4 if it can't clear any exhilarating trail hazards? His intentions were also to show that CGS Motorsports is quite capable of not only designing cool street trucks but also trick off-roaders capable of taking a beating and keeping on rolling. The boost for this '02 Dodge Ram was the creation of Full Throttle Suspension in Fresno, California; the trick 10-inch lift system was installed up front, consisting of a new lower-drop subframe and A-arms.
The rear uses a set of Superlift 10-inch leaf springs. Fox remote reservoir shocks were used front and rear to handle the serious off-road abuse sure to be encountered by Casey. By meeting his lofty lift goals and with the suspension system in place, there was more than enough room to fill the wheelwells with 17x10-inch Slickrock wheels from Colorado Custom, wrapped with a set of 37x12.5Rx17 BFG Mud-Terrain tires for serious traction.
For optimum performance, the Dodge 5.9L V-8 was fitted with CGS Motorsports' own new air intake system, offering maximum airflow and adding some additional ponies to the powerplant. Casey also installed a CGS Motorsport 3-inch exhaust system and custom CGS mufflers for smooth-flowing aspiration and enhanced engine performance.The paint and graphics were completed by L&G Custom Paint of San Dimas, California. Additional trick and aesthetically pleasing components added to this off-roader are the T-Rex billet bumper grille, the Sir Michaels roll pan, and the Gaylord's tonneau cover, adding character and a custom look to this 1500 Ram. For audio/visual entertainment, the cab of the Ram was fitted with such cool components as two 200-watt Kicker amplifiers, two Kicker 10-inch subs, and an assortment of Kicker mids and highs. For visuals, two MA Audio headrest TVs were installed for traveling entertainment.
To an extent, we all possess obsessive habits, some good and some bad. For our circle of compelled off-road enthusiasts, making a life out of truck performance and building functional four-wheeling machines is far from a debilitating addiction. We think it enhances the quality of life. This Ram will take Casey places most people would never see in an ordinary truck or lifetime, hence it fills his life with adventure, excitement, pride, and a job well done.
