Hot and humid triple-digit weather greeted competitors and fans for Rounds 7 and 8 of the CORR Lucas Oil Racing Series in Chula Vista, California. The weather may have been unusually hot for Chula Vista in July, but the action on the track was what fans have come to expect from CORR short-course racing.
Kyle LeDuc in his Skyjacker Ford was soon knocking on the door and passed Hord claiming the Second position. | How hot was it? It was so hot crew chief Doug Kincaid was on fire. Son Jeff was also, taking the checkers in both Rounds 7 and 8. | Carl got to climb the fence for the fans, but the celebration was brief. He would be penalized 10 points for rough driving in the aftermath of the race. |
Douglas, clearly upset about the contact after leading most of the race, exchanged words with Renezeder in Victory Lane. | Carl Renezeder pumps his fist as he crosses the finish line in First Place. Adrian Cenni takes Second and Scott Douglas Third. | Leader Scott Douglas and Second Place driver Carl Renezeder make contact on the last lap in the whoop section before Turn 7. Course workers and a CORR official look on as Douglas tries to recover going too deep in the corner allowing Renezeder and Third Place Adrian Cenni to get by. |
Rick Huseman in the Fabtech Toyota leads Marty Coyne in his Pro Comp Ford through Turn 3. Huseman finished behind Josh Baldwin to take Second, but Coyne was passed by Johnny Greaves in his Potawatomi Toyota, dropping Coyne to Fourth at the flag. | The Chula Vista track is built on land slated for new homes. Josh Baldwin slides through Turn 8 on his way to the checkered flag in Round 7. New homes under construction in the background will soon sit on this very spot. We hope they name the streets after the drivers who left their mark in the dirt during competition. | All kidding aside, the CORR series has little in common with NASCAR. With the tight racing, abundance of horsepower, loose dirt, and whoops and jumps, the typical CORR race makes NASCAR seem like a tea party. |
