On Saturday, December 9, 2006, Clean-Dezert.org, with the support of key members of off-road industry, will kickoff what we hope to become an ongoing tradition in the racing and off-roading community. In an effort to help preserve and beautify our desert resources, we are working to encourage racers, race enthusiasts, and all members of the off-road community to get involved in regular desert clean-up events.
The target location for the first clean-up event will be the parcel of land surrounding the 'Pit A' area of the race course in Barstow, California. It has come to our attention that this area is often a site of dumping not only small trash items, but also large items such as couches and appliances.
We have already made contact with the City of Barstow and are making arrangements for dumpsters to be made available for the event. The biggest challenge we face is manpower. It is a sad reality that some people have lost their sense of responsiblity to pick up after themselves, let alone others.
As such, we are campaigning to put together an attractive package of incentives to encourage volunteers to come and participate. Among these incentives will be a raffle. Participants can earn a number of raffle tickets based on how much trash he/she collects.
