Oil and water. Square pegs and round holes. Asking for a latte at truck stop. Some things just don't mix. The jury is still out as to whether or not fullsize trucks mix with rocks. We took the opportunity to join the SoCal Big Dawgs four-wheel-drive club as the Dawgs subjected their big American iron to the wrath of the Hammer trails of Johnson Valley.

Predominately a fullsize club, the Big Dawgs Club also bears the distinction of having adopted a trail in nearby Big Bear. Good land stewardship such as this will ensure that off-roaders have access to public land now and well into the future. Philanthropy aside, trail adoption offers a perfect excuse to get out to the trails on a regular basis.

Do fullsize trucks mix with rocks? It seems they do, but with a caveat: We found that rocks bite back with more fervor than they do when presented with traditional trail rigs such as Jeep CJs and Toyota pickup trucks. We learned that if you want to play in the rocks with fullsize iron, you'd better be ready to shrug off dents and dings. If you can't run with the Big Dawgs, it's best to stay under the porch.

Late Night Extraction Action
After the trio of Bowen's Blazer, J.C. Andrews' 4Runner Buggy, and Todd Steele's Formula Toyota had conquered Wrecking Ball, we rejoined the continuing extraction effort to get Jason Payne's XXXL Chevy turned around and back to camp. The effort was neither quick nor easy, but the K3500 was finally freed from Wrecking Ball's grip.
