Stardate: Unknown Earthdate: July 1947A young man and his girlfriend were lying in the back of a pickup truck near Boy Scout Mountain about 50 miles from Roswell, New Mexico. An isolated storm with a spider web of lightning could be seen in the distance. Suddenly, an enormous flash of light burst out from the center of the storm and lit up the sky. The flash was followed by a sound similar to that of jet engines breaking the sound barrier. As they watched the sky, a bright light exited the point of the original flash and headed directly at them. There was nowhere to run.
As the two lovers scattered for cover, the light passed directly over their truck and crashed into the forest. There was no fire with the crash, and everything went suddenly dark. They grabbed their flashlights and cautiously approached the object.
They found a saucer-shaped craft with a dome in the middle. Its sides had been ripped open, and the bodies of four small beings were tangled in the wreckage. They all appeared to be dead.
Stardate: Unknown Earthdate: July 1996Two members of the Pass Patrol Travel Club, known by their CB handles of Trapdoor and Sundance, arrived at the crash site late in the evening. Both were fans of the X-Files TV series and enjoyed the mystery behind the Roswell UFO crash.
They set up camp in the same location where the two young lovers had parked their truck 49 years earlier. They browsed around the area where the UFO had crashed while hoping to find a remnant of a spacecraft from another time and dimension. None was found.
As the sun set behind Boy Scout Mountain, small pieces of wood were tossed into the fire ring, the lounge chairs were unfolded, and the campfire tales began to flow. The night was perfectly still without so much as a rustling of leaves to distract their attention from the stories being told. The air was very warm, so the level of the fire was left at a kindling level and maintained more for the relaxing qualities campfires provide than for anything else.
Suddenly, a sound in the forest similar to that of tree leaves being rustled began in the distance. The sound grew closer and closer until it seemed to be all around them. A gentle breeze circled them with a chilling effect. The kindling in the fire ring suddenly began to rise, forming the shape of a tiny tornado carrying the flame upward. The flame rose slowly into the air, moved a few feet to the east and sat back down outside the fire ring.
As the two explorers stared at the flickering flames in total disbelief, the breeze vanished.
Stardate: Unknown Earthdate: November 2006Two members of the Lone Riders Travel Club, known by their CB handles of Outlaw and Happy Jack, arrived in Roswell, New Mexico, with the intention of visiting the crash site near Boy Scout Mountain. Upon entering the city limits, Happy Jack's laptop computer suddenly displayed a black screen followed by the message that core memory was being dumped. Since the computer contained the directions to the crash site as recorded 10 years earlier by Pass Patrol, every effort was made to revive it, but nothing worked.
Outlaw visited the UFO museum to request directions and was told, "You can't get there from here." The person who made that statement did not even smile.
After visiting several other stores and still not finding anyone with specific directions, Outlaw and Happy Jack decided to look for the site using their recollection of directions provided around the last campfire where Sundance told the story. They spent the next four hours wandering around in circles.
Outlaw was driving an AWD Mountaineer that followed the road for about 4 miles then became a little too challenged in some of the bigger rocks. Outlaw pulled into a campsite and parked the vehicle, then climbed into Happy Jack's Explorer. They followed the road going east looking for a landmark called Split Rock. According to the one story, the rock was split vertically when the UFO crashed into it.
Along the way, they found an interesting graveyard and the foundation of a building. The fireplace, now completely surrounded by trees, had become a part of the forest. After about two hours of searching along very rocky roads and still finding no Split Rock, they returned to the campsite where the Mountaineer was parked.
Outlaw and Happy Jack took a break at the campsite. They made a few phone calls to Sundance but he could not remember exactly where the split rock was. Happy Jack pulled out of the campsite and called back on the radio. "That sure is a nice campsite."
"Yeah," Outlaw answered. "It looks just like the one Sundance described where he and Trapdoor camped."
After a short pause, Happy Jack keyed his mic again. "Maybe that's it."
Outlaw had not yet pulled out of the campsite. He turned his engine back off and started exploring. He found a walkway in the forest lined with rocks. It led directly to the split rock.
The rest of the day was uneventful.
Stardate: Unknown Earthdate: The next day Outlaw and Happy Jack checked into a motel in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Happy Jack turned on his laptop computer to see what would happen. It booted up as if nothing had happened.
Stardate: Unknown Earthdate: The Roswell StoryDuring the month of July in 1947, two UFOs collided in the skies northeast of Roswell, New Mexico. One of them crashed near Boy Scout Mountain just a few yards from a pickup truck occupied by two young lovers. They visited the craft that night and returned the next morning. During that visit, they observed four alien bodies and an abundance of scrap material from the craft. Each of them collected pieces of the scrap for souvenirs.
A short time later, the young lady was killed in a car accident. Her souvenirs had been in the car but were never found.
The man's truck was broken into and his house was ransacked. Nothing was taken except the souvenirs.
As for the craft that crashed in the forest: It was officially recorded by government officials as a weather balloon.
The truth is out there! Or is it?What really happened on that July night in 1947? Was the lady's death really an accident? Who broke into the man's truck? What visited the Pass Patrol campsite in 1996? What happened to Happy Jack's computer? What is a Stardate anyhow? And last of all, the most important question is, "Where did Outlaw and Happy Jack go for dinner?"
